FREE MOVIE NIGHT FEATURING MOANA (PG)

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, pop corn, snacks, wine or whatever.  We'll gather as a group (pajamas optional) and enjoy the family friendly movie.  A true throw back Thursday.

This movie is NOT posted on the West Wind Drive In website.

A Truly American Phenomenon

The drive-in theatre experience first came to light on June 6, 1933. That was the day Mr. Richard Hollingshead, opened the first drive-in theater in Pennsauken Township, New Jersey. A few others quickly followed but the trend only truly took off with the advent of in-car speakers in the 1940s.Families still flock to our drive-ins for great entertainment at an incredible value. But when you come to a West Wind Drive-In you’ll experience more than just a great movie.  You’ll experience the drive-in – a unique and historic slice of Americana.

About West Wind
West Wind has been family owned and operated from day one.  We opened our first drive-in theatre in 1952 and today we own and operate the largest drive-in theatre chain in the world with four in California, one in Arizona and two in Nevada. In fact, we have recently reopened two drive-ins that had been shuttered for years: Solano Drive-In in Concord, California and the Santa Barbara Drive-In in Goleta, California. The atmosphere at West Wind is best described as relaxed family fun with a mix of old-school drive-in vibe combined with the latest technology. Toss a Frisbee or football around before the show or bring the wee ones to our play structure near the snack bar before you settle back for a one of a kind movie presentation. - See more at: http://www.westwinddi.com/about-us#sthash.Xf636WtB.dpuf

Santa Barbara's Geological Evolution

SATURDAY, JUNE 17

9:00 -11:00 am

Ever wonder how Santa Barbara became one of the most beautiful locations in the world? Join us for a morning discussion with Santa Barbara Newcomer, Rob Johansing, a geologist consultant. For both residents and visitors to Santa Barbara, geology is ‘front and center’ and plays an important role in the local aesthetics and our well-being.

We meet at Eling’s Park for an extraordinary panorama of Santa Barbara from the mountains to the islands. From an easily accessed overlook, we will briefly discuss the geologic evolution of California’s Central Coast and, in particular, Santa Barbara.  In less than two hours, we will discuss the origin of the geology that provides us with such great scenery. This will include a discussion of the processes that impact all aspects of our lives from agriculture to natural resources to home construction to recreation. Our hope is that you will begin to see Santa Barbara in a more holistic way linking Plate Tectonics to Pinot Grigio.

Robert Johansing received his B.Sc. in Geology from Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colorado in 1976 and a M.Sc. from Colorado State University in 1982. Since 1977, Rob has worked mostly as a consultant in mineral exploration, mining, mineral development and applied research throughout the southwest U.S. and Latin America.

(Our friends at Chuck’s Waterfront Grill & The Endless Summer bar-cafe have a special for lecture night attendees!)

Gray Whale Wisdom founders and Breath of the Whales authors Keith Grey Hale & Carolyn Gorman open a dialogue exploring cetacean science and the connection between humans and whales, and the importance of cultivating a deeper awareness of our future together on this beautiful planet we share.

In the Whale Whisper presentation, Keith and Carolyn offer a comprehensive view into cetacean science and the latest research regarding whale communication and intelligence. They cover basic cetacean biology and evolution, chart whale populations and marine environment systems, as well as highlight cetacean neuroscience research and the latest whale communication findings that support an understanding of cetacean intelligence and their sophisticated social behaviors. Ancient mythology and archeological evidence mirrors our modern day fascination with cetaceans and suggests an integrated parallel evolution.

Picnic in the Park

Dîner en Blanc

Sunday May 21 at 4 PM

Save the datefor a popup event somewhere in Santa Barbara. SHHHH! The location **********  is secret, and only registered newcomers and their guests will know where we are meeting!

Dressing ALL IN WHITE is the way that we will know we are all 'together' !

We are coordinating this "Picnic in the Park" with Young Professionals, PopUp and Garden committees.

Attendees will bring a picnic/snack and drink of choice along with a blanket or, if they choose, chairs.  There will be a strict requirement to dress all in white as our way to recognize who is in our party.

A little history:

Dîner en Blanc is a worldwide event, spanning six continents, in which people flash-gather in a public space and set up a temporary, chic dining area. The principles of the event are simply that guests dress formally in white; and that they enjoy quality food, wine and good company. Only attendees are privy to the location on the day of the dinner.
