When you imagine the quintessential place to have a happy hour,  The Neighborhood is that bar.  Voted Santa Barbara's Best Bar for eight years in a row, they've got everything a bar called The Neighborhood should have:  a friendly staff,  generous drinks galore, great pub grub, and games, games, games!

Choose from a wide selection of beer on tap, exotic cocktails  (including a jalapeno bloody Mary) and of course, wine.  Food ranges from typical bar fare to healthy choices. But, best of all, The Neighborhood excels at being a place to play games and have FUN!  At The Neighborhood, you can play pool, play ping pong, play corn hole,  play beer pong, play foosball, and play music from a whole universe of titles.  What could be better?

So, join your Newcomers friends, old and new, on Friday night for FLAT-OUT-FUN at Santa Barbara's quintessential place to be:  The Neighborhood Bar & Grill. . . friends and family are welcome, too.

The Neighborhood Bar & Grill is located at 235 W. Montecito Street on the corner of  Montecito & Bath Streets.  If you're not able to find street parking, park in the Train Station lot is located a block east on Montecito St and the first 75 minutes are free.  (This parking lot can be accessed from State St. as well.)  Additional parking may be found at Pershing Park on the west side of Castillo St. by the SB Carriage Museum at 129 Castillo St.

Join us for a special day, nestled between the Pacific Coast Ocean and the Southern California foothills at the Santa Barbara Polo Club.

Sip champagne under our Luxury Cabana for the and enjoy the sport of kings!

The thundering hooves of eight 1,200-pound horses often come close to the field's edge, not to mention a 100 mph ball that is occasionally knocked near the crowd.

Main Match check in time is 2:30 pm. Join us at the Newcomer's 30' x 70' private cabana. This is followed by the Maserati & Pony Parade, anthem singer, team introduction and then throw in at 3 pm.

Divot Stomp

During the half time of the Main Match, there will be a divot stomp, where the polo spectators get to walk out onto the field and stomp the grass back into the ground.

Divot stomping is a long standing tradition at half-time. Spectators wander all over the field stomping down the torn up turf. It's fun and you can meet great people just wandering the field. Players often walk divots to keep limber at the half, and often they take breaks or change ponies close to the stands. Many times you can say hello to the best polo athletes in the world.

Opens 1/10 Tuesday

Here's how Sip, Sup & Say Hello! works!

Enjoy a casual potluck dinner party in a private home with your fellow Newcomers. Join in as eitherHost orGuest. (The Committee especially welcomes new Host homes.)

  • Hosts... offer their home as the setting for our meal, and they  coordinate with their guests to create the experience the group wants to have.  It can be as basic as setting a theme (or not), assigning dishes (or not) or going more formal with a sit down dinner (or not - paper plates are ok!). Formal sit down dinner seating is not necessary, but certainly ok!  Hosts homes can hold from 6 to 14 guests!  Host gets to decide on the number of guests.  Optional contribution to meal by the host is up to host.  Host provides tableware, glasses and water.
  • Guests... bring an assigned dish as coordinated with their host (e.g., appetizer, entree, side, or dessert) and their own beverages of choice.

If you’d like to be a Guest for this Sip, Sup and Say Hello! event, please register ASAP (and read the Cancellation Policy, below)!

Once registered, the Committee will email you two weeks before the event telling you: Host's name & address, and the Host will reach out to the assigned group to coordinate the evening!

If you'd like to be a futureHost, or have questions, please contact Renee Martin at Rkaymartin@gmail.com

    Bon Appetit!

CANCELLATION POLICY: By registering for this event, you are agreeing to attend the event and to bring the dish (appetizer, entree, side, or dessert) that is assigned to you by your host.  Should you cancel after receiving your assignment, you agree to either provide a replacement Newcomer Guest or deliver your assigned dish to your Host’s home on the day of the event.  Hint: if you have scheduling pressures, consider using SBMenus.com.  For a small fee (about $5) they will deliver an item you purchase from one of many SB restaurants directly to your Host’s home on the day of the event.

Please join us as we return to another fun venue on the TGIF tour, The Telegraph Brewing Company.

This is a must stop for any craft beer lover! They have amazing beer and a space to sit and enjoy it. From their standard beers like the White Ale and the Handlebar Abbey, to their seasonal beers, like the Fiesta Pilsner, if you're sure to find at least one beer you'll love. They are also one of the best places to find sour beers.

Each of Telegraph's brews is carefully crafted in small batches in traditional copper-clad brewery. They respectfully employ brewing techniques proven over the centuries while eschewing modern shortcuts that might make our lives easier but inevitably lead to less distinctive beers. However, just like you, Telegraph Brewing Co. isn't afraid of trying something new. That's something you'll discover on taking your first sip of our beer. They are proud to be a small part of California's rich brewing heritage and we hope that with each pint you can taste the perfect blend of the past and the future.

Hang out and play darts, old-school video games, and Tiki Toss. They also have growlers, bottles, and kegs

    Mayday! Mayday

            Monday, May 1, 2017 5:30 PM

Save the date. Watch this space for more details.

Flying Solo is a new committee for networking among Newcomers who live alone, or often go out alone.

Besides being something celebrated as the first of May, "Mayday" is a cry for help - the kind of cry you make when your house makes funny noises, sends sparks out of walls or bubbles up water where it shouldn't. Expert builder Dennis Kistler, who grew a one-person repair business into a prestigious construction company, will bring us a few hints for an ounce of prevention - hints especially helpful to we who manage the house solo. Attendees can bring their own ideas (let's have a contest for best one) and also their questions. We'll have plenty of time for socializing over wine and apps.

The event will take place in another Newcomer's beautiful home in Carpinteria.

    Questions: email solo@sbnewcomers.org
