 Our Theme for August is

 Registration opens Jul 5th.

Here's how Dining In works:

  • For each Dining In event you may be either a Host or a Guest. (The Committee especially welcomes new Host homes.)
  • Hosts offer their home for 4-8 or more Newcomer Guests. (As Host, if you're single, you may include a Guest who is not a Newcomer member.)
  • As the Host, you don’t have to provide any of the food (or do any cooking!) You’re asked to provide water, coffee, and/or tea.
  • The Guests bring all the food and their own beverages of choice. Each Guest brings one part of the meal to share with the group.
  • A few days before the scheduled event all Guests will receive an email from the Dining In Committee specifying what they are assigned to bring, i.e., appetizer, entree, side dish, vegetable, or dessert. The email will also contain the name and address of the Host, plus the names and contact information of the Guests.
  • CANCELLATION POLICY: By registering for this event, you are agreeing to attend the event and to bring the menu item assigned to you. Should you cancel after receiving your assignment, you agree to either provide a replacement Guest or assure your assigned food item is delivered to your Host’s home the day of the event.Hint: if you’re not able to deliver your assigned item, consider using SBMenus.com. For a small fee (about $5.00) they will deliver an item you purchase from one of many SB restaurants directly to your Host’s home the day of the event.

Most participants find Dining In to be a fun, relaxed way to make new friends. If you’d like to be a Guest for our next Dining In event, please register as soon as possible to reserve your spot! Dining In is very popular and typically fills up fast. There is no charge for the event. Bon Appetit!

If you would like to Host a future Dining In event, or have any questions, please email Carol, Co-Chair, Dining In Committee. diningin@sbnewcomers.org.

SAVE THE DATE! Old Spanish Days Fiesta Carriage Decorating Event (04 Aug 2016)

50 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

PLEASE NOTE: We have been asked by a few club members if children under the age of 18 may attend this event. Unfortunately, our club Policies and Procedures state that anyone under the age of 18 is not permitted to attend our events. This is due to insurance liability. We are an adult social club. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Have you heard the details about Old Spanish Days Fiesta taking place August 3 - 7? It is a BIG DEAL here in Santa Barbara. Celebration of the Spanish Heritage takes place all over town in the way of dancing, singing, music, great food and drinks! Oh, and one of the biggest parades to grace the streets of SB!

We have the distinct pleasure to participate in one of the BIGGEST events during fiesta!  As a club we come together at the SB Carriage and Western Art Museum and help decorate old historic carriages with beautiful floral arrangements. All of the flowers are donated by local floral companies and we have a warehouse full of them to pick from for our tasks!

The SB Newcomers Club

has participated in this

event for over 20 years!

Now it is your turn to enjoy an evening of friendship, good food, lovely drinks and putting your talents together to make something magical!  All of the floral arrangements will be attached to the historic carriages at the SB Carriage & Western Art Museum and then the carriages will be drawn by horses/mules down State St. on Friday, 8/5, during the Fiesta Parade!

A scrumptious Mexican dinner will be served accompanied by delicious margaritas!  Once we have had time to socialize and fill our bellies, we will get down to a true working event.

Please plan to bring a folding chair, hand-pruners, perhaps gloves (if you feel the need), a jacket (we will be working outside into the evening), work clothes (plan to get down and dirty), comfortable shoes made for standing for a few hours, and your creative fun attitude!

You will truly love this event and will talk about it with all your friends back in your old home town! They will be so envious of your new life here in SB!

PLEASE REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT!

Old Spanish Days, otherwise known in Santa Barbara as "Fiesta", began in 1924.  Then Mayor Charles M. Andrea declared fiesta week "one of festival and gaiety, during which period, which shall be known as 'Old Spanish Days,' the spirit of old Santa Barbara shall be lived again and again and the new Santa Barbara shall give way to the traditions of the city's founders", a time of homecoming for former residents and one of hospitality for guests.
